Israel is considered to be savvy in fighting enemies. Visible, human enemies. The Coronavirus is not that kind of enemy. So far, Israel has been quite successful at stopping this new enemy by using its acquired knowledge in technology, life science, and medicine. Israel reacted early and aggressively. The effects of this strategy on Israel's economy, health system and democracy remain to be seen. This is an informal inside look at Israel's fight against the Coronavirus, a chance to discuss its initial successes and mistakes, and some of the lessons we can learn as the virus continues to spread in the US, Israel, and beyond.
The event will be moderated by Dr. Michael Fine, former RI Director of Health February 2011 to March 2015. Dr. Fine led a Rhode Island delegation to Israel on health care and life science in 2013.
THE SPEAKERS
Roy Keidar is the co-founder of Medint, a company that provides unique research skills to turn data into personal medical insights. Formerly the legal advisor for the Israeli National Security Council at the Prime Minister's Office, and the CEO of the Reut Institute one of Israel's leading strategy and policy groups dealing with Israel's most pressing issues on national security, social and economic development and science and technology.
Roy holds bachelor and master degrees in law (LLB and LLM) from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and a MPA from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. He is a lecturer on in the IDC Herzliya, a special counsel for Yigal Arnon and co law firm in Israel and a Wexner Israel Fellow.
Roy frequently speaks and writes about matters related to emerging technologies and their effect on our economy, society and legal structure. A sample of Roy's publications can be found at Roy's LinkedIn page.
Roey Tzezana, PhD, is a public intellectual and a futures studies researcher with worldwide acclaim. He’s a research fellow in the Blavatnik Interdisciplinary Cyber Research Center, and is the academic manager of the program for Futures Studies at Lahav Executive Education in Recanati Business School at Tel Aviv University. He has given courses about futures studies and the future in Hebrew University and the Technion as well. His first book “Guide to the Future”, became a best-seller and focused public attention in the disruptive influence of emerging technologies on society. Tzezana has founded and is the director of the Simpolitix project for political forecasting, and is ‘living the future’ as co-founder of TeleBuddy: a start-up company helping people connect via tele-presence robots everywhere in the world. By using the avatar bodies, Tzezana is capable of teaching, lecturing and living in two continents at the same time, and wishes to give everyone a chance to do the same. Tzezana is a member of several bodies dedicated to studying the future, including the World Future Society, TechCast (where he has been elected recognized as Expert of the Month), and the Millennium Project. In addition, he’s a senior analyst at Wikistrat – a firm utilizing the wisdom of the crowd to provide strategic forecast.
