Call for Speakers for Upcoming Online Conference Blue Economic Development Conference Organized by the Rhode Island-Israel Collaborative (RIIC) and the University of Rhode Island (URI) January 6, 2025 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, (6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Israel time)


The marine sectors are increasingly recognized for their significant contributions to the global economy, with innovation and sustainable practices driving unprecedented growth. New regulations aimed at sustainability within the Blue Economic are further supporting these trends. The event will catalyze regional collaboration and showcase integrated approaches that offer both economic and ecological benefits. Key sectors such as green ports, marinas, offshore wind turbines, and fisheries will be discussed.

About the conference:

The conference will have two parts. Part 1 will be online January 6, 2025, 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, (6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Israel time) and will be followed by an in- person 2-day conference in March 31 - April 1st, 2025 which will take place in Rhode Island, USA.  This event will feature distinguished speakers from both Rhode Island and Israel, discussing advancements within the Blue Economy. Key Topics of the Conference are


1.      Advancements in Blue Energy: Offshore Wind and Marine Renewable Technologies

This session will focus on the latest innovations in blue energy, particularly offshore wind turbines and marine renewable energy technologies like solar and wave energy. Speakers are encouraged to discuss technological breakthroughs, challenges, and how these innovations can be scaled up to meet growing energy demands. Additionally, the session will explore the impact of new regulations and policies that are shaping the blue energy landscape and driving sustainable development in this sector.

 

2.      Sustainable Fisheries: Balancing Growth with Marine Ecosystem Preservation

As fisheries play a critical role in both global food security and economic growth, this topic will cover the integration of sustainable practices within the industry and ecosystem preservation. Speakers will address the latest technological tools for monitoring fish stocks, preventing overfishing, and related aspects of water quality and water pollution challenges.

 

3.      Blue Maritime and Marine Transportation: Innovations in Sustainable Shipping and Ports 

This topic will explore the transition toward sustainable maritime transportation, focusing on blue ports, marinas, and innovations in shipping technologies aimed at reducing emissions. Speakers are encouraged to discuss the development and implementation of low-carbon technologies, the electrification of ports, and new regulatory frameworks promoting cleaner marine transportation.
